The Cult of Michelle Phan
Michelle Phan. For those who don’t know, she is the former Ringling art student who gained worldwide notoriety for her YouTube channelwhere she would create makeup tutorials that are a huge a hit, particularly with the teens. Many of the videos have well over one million views. This led to a position with Lancome, the makeup and skin care company. She is also a superstar on the social networks with well over 500,000 “likes” on her Facebook fan page and nearly 150,000 followers on Twitter. However, this all leads to the dark side of Phan and her militia of followers. There is an almost blind loyalty to Phan and a zombie-like, robotic reaction to anything she posts.
Michelle’s Creations
Michelle has a knack for wearing some of the most seemingly out-of-place clothes, from lattice shirts to chained clothing. Most of her fans believe this is because of her “innovation” and “creativity.” Of course, Michelle doesn’t want to let them down — she wants them to recognize her so-called “artistic abilities”.
She claims that she made some of her clothes. There’s nothing wrong with making your own clothes or accessories. It’s great that people love creating unique, well-designed, handmade clothing in this economy. However, we noticed a few discrepancies in her claims, leading us to question her integrity and creativity as a self-proclaimed “artist.”
Michelle Phan’s “Scary” Night
Michelle posted this story about a late-night encounter with 2 men.

If this truly happened, then Michelle fans and ex-fans alike can agree that it is an incredibly scary and traumatic experience for just about anyone. Contrary to some of her more passionate and overzealous fans, we are not a heartless bunch! We are merely ex-phans who are honest and happen to see flaws in a lot of her stories. Unfortunately, this is one of them.
