Advertisement Drama

Recently there have been strange advertisements of youtube channels on fellow youtubers’ videos. They show up before a video and if clicked, it will automatically send you to that youtuber’s main page.  An example of this is Michelle Phan’s introduction video ad in one of MissChievous’s contest videos.

Many of MissChievous’s fans commented asking why Michelle’s ads are popping up in her video. MissChievous didn’t know about this or had anything to do with the ads showing up. She even replied to her fans about it when they asked about the ad:

MissChievous never actually saw the ad herself since it only shows up in the U.S., but here is a screen cap that shows proof of Michelle’s ad showing up in MissChievous’s video :

MissChievous is taking action right now to filter the ads. She announced the problem on her facebook, trying to be as discrete as possible without pointing any fingers, but most have already figured out who it was.

Many people, including some of Michelle fans, found it to be rude and disrespectful, especially since the owner of the video didn’t even know about it. Michelle Phan is already youtube’s number one guru and just recently became youtube’s most subscribed female, beating Venetian Princess’s two years streak. Why is someone so popular using such a tasteless and cheap tactic to expose themselves? For someone who’s agreed that more talented gurus don’t get enough of the spotlight or appreciation, she sure is going out of her way to make sure it stays that way.
